Soon, the cold weather will be on your doorsteps, and you will want to be prepared. Part of getting ready for winter includes preparing your heating. There are many things that need to be done, such as changing the air filter, cleaning ducts and doing small repairs. Here are a few of the things that you will want to do to your HVAC system before the cold arrives this year:

1. Changing The Filter And Preparing The Furnace Or Boiler

The filter of your heating is what keeps debris and dirt out of your system. As this material collects in the system, it can reduce airflow and cause problems. This is why it is important to change the filter of your heating system. This is something that you will want to do before you begin to use your heating. Changing the filter will ensure that your heating system has good airflow and is free of debris when you start it for the first time this year.

2. Checking Vents And Cleaning The Ductwork Of Your System

The vents and ductwork of your heating system also require cleaning before you start it. It is a good idea to go through your home and check all the vents to ensure that they are open. You may also want to have the ductwork of your home cleaned before you start using the heating of your systems. There are services that can do this for you, which can also clean the furnace. You can also try cleaning the dust in ducts out yourself using a shop vacuum.

3. Cleaning And Repairing Small Parts In The Furnace Before Starting Heating

The furnace can also be cleaned. You will want to have things like the heating elements cleaned. When you have your system cleaned, you may also want to have small repairs done. This can be things like replacing the ignitor and checking other mechanical parts to ensure that they are in working order.  Doing this now will ensure that you do not have to go without heating due to small repairs that should have been done before winter.

These are some of the things that you need to do to your heating before it gets too cold. If you need help with repairs and maintenance for your heating system, contact an HVAC services contractor and talk with them about how they can help you stay warm this year.
